TOKYO, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT)
(Tokyo:9432.T - News) said on Thursday it was considering joining Open
Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium for accelerating the
adoption of the Linux operating system.

NTT would be the first major telecoms operator to join OSDL, a potential
setback for companies offering rival operating systems for servers used in
the telecoms industry, such as International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM -
News), Sun Microsystems Inc (NasdaqNM:SUNW - News) and Microsoft Corp
(NasdaqNM:MSFT - News).
Linux software can be obtained for free and copied or modified, unlike rival
Microsoft's software, and has become popular among corporations looking to
lower the cost of using computer systems.
A spokesman for NTT, the world's largest telecoms group by sales, said the
company has been studying the viability of Linux as an operating system for
telecommunications systems, but declined to comment further.
Hit by fierce price competition and user migration to mobile phones, the
former state-owned monopoly reported the first annual sales fall in its
50-year history in the year ended in March, making cost cuts an immediate
task to tackle.
Shares in NTT were down 2.29 percent at 511,000 yen by midday, in line with
the Nikkei average's (^N225 - News) 2.34 percent fall.

La gente si chiederā perchč.
Comprava LNUX credendo si trattasse di Linux.
Non capirā!
Farā delle ricerche.
Si documenterā.
E scoprirā che in effetti Lnux aveva davvero a che fare con Linux e
l'Open Source soprattutto.
Potrebbe subito risentirne in negativo, poi recuperare subito.
